Frequently Asked Questions about Sisters & Buddies

 | How does the sister program work? Using the new GSCNC camp
application system, there is no way to implement a "sisters" program.
It's entirely possible that one girl may get into camp and her sibling may
not. If this happens and it's a problem for your family, you may
withdraw the girl who got into and receive a refund as long as you do it by
the refund date (see
important dates).
|
 | Does Camp Crossroads have a buddy program? Not exactly.
Once your daughter is accepted into camp, and you
will be given the opportunity to identify ONE girl as a buddy. Both girls must be in the SAME program to be buddies - for example both must
be Montrose Magpies and the buddy request must be mutual (both girls must
request each other). We'll try to
place these girls in the same unit, but no promises. Sorry, but we
don't offer a blind dating service where you can request something like "put her
with any other girl from troop 1234".
|
 | Why won't you allow 3 or 4 girls to be buddies? Well, there
are several reasons. First, one of the goals of GSCNC day camps is for girls
to "meet other girls from throughout the Council". Second, an important
readiness indicator is that your daughter is mature enough to "play and work
with all girls not just her best friend". Third, when groups of girls are put
together in one unit they quickly form a clique which can have a detrimental
impact on the entire unit. We've also tried "truddies" (groups of three), but
that actually creates heartache when the unit leader says "line up by twos"
and the three girls have to decide who in the truddy gets "left out". In
July, in 90 degree weather, the least slight can turn into a major dramatic
event. After 14 years of "experiences" we've found that sticking to our
"buddies come in pairs" rule works best. We like to tell girls that their
unit is filled with new "best friends" they haven't met, yet!

 | My older daughter has been accepted as a Camp Crossroads Teen Staff Member.
Does that guarantee her younger sister a place at Camp Crossroads. No.
Guaranteed placement is only for the daughters of adult volunteers (adult
staff or Helping Hands volunteers).
