Sit-Upons!
Wondering what the green buckets that are coming home from camp are used for? Great Question! The campers are decorating a bucket that can specifically handle even adults sitting on them when the lid is secured. They are perfect to take to any outing (including at camp!) as they can store items and also serve as a portable seat. Sit-Upons have a place in Girl Scout tradition with many versions that have been used over the years. What trip or outdoor event does your camper plan to bring their AMAZING Sit-Upon to?
Instructions from Tie Dye:
Please wait to remove the tie-dyed item from the bag until the following day, so the dye can set in. Using gloves, rinse the item, then remove the rubber bands and wash the item in cold water - separately – do NOT put it in the wash with other clothing/items.
Catapults – Pink Porlocks
The Pink Porlocks started the day strong with tie-dye and finished sewing our Cornish Pixie craft. We started crafting customized wands and got to experiment with metal stamping. After lunch, the Catapults cooled down with ice cream and made sit-a-buckets before decorating the wands we made. Tomorrow is camp t-shirt day, so please make sure your camper wears their purple camp shirt that was given to them on Monday. Also, your camper’s new tie-dye masterpiece should stay in its bag until tomorrow so it can stay vibrant for years of camp to come.
Tornado 1 – Red Firedrakes
The Red Firedrakes started the day off with fun at science! We made magic-colored potions and slime before heading back up to our unit for some crafts! Then, we used some hidden clues to find the prize of a watermelon to eat at the end of the hike! The watermelon was a great way to cool off and enjoy something yummy before lunch! Afterwards, we had fun making some basilisks (snakes) out of gimp and pony beads! Afterwards we tested our skills at the range with archery! We did an awesome job today of staying hydrated and keeping out of the sun as much as possible! Tomorrow make sure to wear your camp shirts for the pictures we will be. PLEASE make sure you bring lunch and water bottle. Tomorrow and the next day are going to be VERY hot and humid, so water is important. We are excited to see you all tomorrow in your camp shirts with water, lunch, and a smile!
Tornado 2 – Blue Dragons
We had a super busy day today! To start off, we practiced sewing in crafts and then continued our fun with fiber-arts at tie-dye! Make sure to let your shirt sit for 24 hours and rinse it out until the water runs clear before you wash it. After our yummy lunch, we headed over to challenge course, where the girls tested their bravery and climbed the height of trees! We also had a great time on the zipline. We can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow! Make sure to bring a full water bottle every day.
Bats 1 – Yellow Fruits
The Yellow Fruits had a fantastic day at camp. We started our day off with making adorable owls made from towels and googly eyes during arts and crafts. Then we experimented with pipe cleaners and attempted to make our own bubble wands! After that we headed to sports and games for a fun game of quidditch. Finally, we tie-dyed and did some experiments in science! Make sure your camper wears their camp shirt tomorrow!
Bats 2 – Blue Basilisks
The Blue Basilisks today had an awesome day where we climbed walls, crossed the magical chess board and crossed the black lake using lily pads at challenge course! We then raced across the fields and battled in a game of quidditch at songs and games! Lastly, we honed our inner artists at tie dye, (instructions have been provided on aftercare!). On our way to pack up our stuff we managed to find Scabbers and returned him back to sunshine for a reward of jellybeans (and m&m’s for those who can’t have jellybeans). Since tomorrow will be SCORTCHING hot make sure your kids are in shorts and t-shirts and bring a change of clothes or a towel since we will be battling Bats 2 in a water fight!!
Sunrays 1 – Purple Princesses
The Purple Princesses had a fabulous day experimenting with slime and watching the power of dry ice. During our time together we made BIFFY sniffers – can you guess the scent(s)? This might be a fun talking point to get your camper to tell you about their day! We also took some time in the shade to stack rocks and make rock shapes. We have some very talented builders in our group! We have loved having your princesses these last few days! Excited for the next half of the week to see what other fun adventures we have! Tomorrow is sno-cones and reptile show yay!
Sunrays 2 – Mischievous Marigolds
The Mischievous Marigolds had another magical day of camp. We caught Scabbers sneaking around our unit and were rewarded with some treats before becoming entrepreneurs during a beading activity with our OWL, A.E. We were crack shots at Archery, shooting Nerf-tipped arrows and slingshots. After lunch we made slime and did exciting experiments at Science before making Gryffindor necklaces with the Catapults. We ended the day playing a rousing game of Quidditch at Sports & Games and setting a course record for our relay! It will be hot tomorrow, so please hydrate extra tonight. See you tomorrow!
Sunrays 3 – Minty Mermaids
The Minty Mermaids had a swimmingly wonderful second day of camp! We started the day with a few rousing games of quidditch, explored camouflage and made mermaid scale initials, enjoyed delicious trail mix (allergy friendly), and hit the range for archery and slingshots. Our owl taught us to make paper bag owls, and we finished the day with a science experiment of mini foam volcanoes. We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow! Please wear your camp shirt for the camp picture tomorrow!
Rangers
The Rangers had a great day today! We started off at science where we did many fun experiments. Then we came back to Ashgrove fire pit where we practiced fire safety and lighting matches. Then we roasted hotdogs and ate s’mores with the pixies, before heading up to crafts where we made our amazing sit-upons. We ended the day eating watermelon and practicing for the flag ceremony tomorrow morning.
Pixies – All Powerful Pixies
The Pixies started off their day by creating slime and mixing potions together in science, after that the rangers invited them to have a cookout with them at lunch, they cooked hot dogs and s’mores! Then they went to crafts and decorated buckets to make sit-upons! After crafts they went on a walk and found a dragon egg with frozen baby dragons in it. They used water guns to melt the frozen dragons and set them free. They ended the day off by playing in the water with their dragon friends!
